In the summer of 2010 Subaru launched a new ad campaign to promote the redesigned 2011 WRX and WRX STi. The slogan for this popular campaign was "Get More Gs". This of course is obviously referencing the road gripping power and superb handling of their Symmerical AWD hoon machines. The ads featured Dave Mirra sliding around an STi and a cute little tennis ball.
For a limited time Subaru has announced they are giving away free copies of this little tennis ball guy. It's a pretty sweet give away, and besides - everyone likes free stuff.
In today's edition of Fail Friday we get to see a Dodge Caliber "drifting"...yeah...drifting. What makes this video even more of a fail is the fantastic Drowning Pool Bodies soundtrack on the YouTube video. What a classic tune...check it out:
The problem with so many YouTube videos is that they are riddled with choppy video, awful sound quality, or dubbed over soundtracks. This clip of the Ferrari 599 GTO suffers from none of the aforementioned problems. Instead, we've found 1:30 of pure Ferrari V12 action, enjoy:
You can spend hours on Flickr trying to find amazing photos. We've done some of the work for you in today's "Ferrari Friday Flickr". This edition of the FFF features a black 599XX from Thomas Quintin's Photostream:
Welcome to The Daily Shot. This is where we post original pictures taken at track days, races, or just the daily drive around town.
To start off Ferrari Friday, today's picture comes from a track day at the New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, NJ. This was taken at the Ferrari Challenge race this past summer. The 458 was used as the pace car for this race as the 458 Challenges had yet to have been delivered anywhere yet at the time. These cars are incredibly beautiful in person, we hope you enjoy the shot:
One of the tools needed to succesfully document our trip out West and all subsequent rallying, racing, and general hoonery is a good video camera. Today we got a GoPro with all the associated Auto mounts.
There's nothing special or really all that Hoonish about this video, but let it be known and for everyone to beware... we're on the prowl now, and we'll have video to prove it...
As some of you may know, BMW recently announced they are running a contest to find "The Ultimate BMW Blogger". Essentially, they are looking to find someone young and motivated who is obsessed with BMW's, and has a vast knowledge of the history, performance specifications, and minutiae of every car (and SUV *cringe*) to roll off a BMW assembly line. While we here at The Daily Hoon respect and appreciate BMW's, we are by no means experts on their heritage, however, we know someone who is.
Our friend from the Jalopnik commentariat JBH is for all intents and purposes a BMW obsessed individual. His passion for their legendary cars has been well documented on his Facebook page Straight Six Flicks where there are many videos and photos of all things BMW. Check out his entry post to read what were talking about:
"To me BMW represents balance. I have learned a lot about life and the way the world works through this understanding of balance as seen in a BMW. A fast BMW is not only a fine piece of engineering, but a temptation, a challenge.
When I drive a BMW, I have to balance everything right in order to get the ultimate experience. I am balancing the clutch and the throttle, balancing the car in the lane, balancing my desire to go faster with the legal restrictions.
I know the weight distribution in my BMW is almost perfectly balanced between the front and rear. I know the valves and pistons in my BMW are precisely balanced to provide a linear power delivery. When I am behind the wheel all of these components come together to create the ultimate driving experience.
BMW is much more than simply a car, or brand. It goes far beyond stoplight races and track days. Nothing can cure my problems better than rowing the gears, making the needle shoot to the redline. When I drive a BMW I am alive."
Well said, JBH, well said. We think it would be really awesome if he made it far in the contest, but for that to happen he will have to receive votes. If you would like to help a fellow hoon out please go to his official entry site and vote for him, there is no need to register and it's just a simple click of the mouse.
Because today seems like WRX STi day, and honestly, what day isn't? Here's a clip of some mud/snow action from an STi getting properly dirty, unlike that greeny from this morning's Daily Shot.
Enjoy some sweet donut action by this Subaru WRX STi...
Welcome to our second update on our ongoing journey to Rally School in Seattle, WA. For a little bit of background, check out our Welcome Page and then read our first countdown post; Dirtfish 101. As the countdown slowly continues, we are of course planning on making this a huge deal, because to us it is exactly that...
As of today Scotto has picked up a GoPro video camera and a big memory card to chronicle the whole trip and to add to our growing list of Hoon related videos.
Last week we purchased our flights out West, and will be departingin the early morning of March 15th, as the sun rises over the great state of Pennsylvania we'll be on board a flight to beautiful Cincinnati! A short layover then off to "The Evergreen State" landing in SEA-TAC.
Not long after this we will have roughly 3 hours or so of daylight (fingers crossed it isn't raining) to look over the car and make final adjustments.
Every road-trip starts with proper maintenance which means we're going to give the 'Lude a quick and dirty wrench and lube job; we'll also be tuning her up to make sure she is ready for whatever the 2,932 miles of America can throw our way.
We will be on our way to DirtFish early on the morning of the 16th for our 8am session of white knuckled, opposite locked, power sliding, super doriftoing in the DirtFish STi's.
Between now and then we'll post some more background on the 1989 Prelude Si The 'Lude (which will be our future LeMons car), DirtFish Rally school, and our plans for the trip back. If anyone has any recommendations for great places to drive between Seattle, and New Jersey please send us a message, or notes of encouragement at: TheDailyHoon@gmail.com
Thanks for following our progress, as always: Happy Hooning everyone!
Once a week we'll find a fun, unique, or cringe worthy craigslist car/truck ad and highlight here. Please feel free to submit any ideas you have to TheDailyHoon@gmail.com
Today's find is a 1992 Nissan 240SX "Drift Convertible", with a 5 Speed SR20DET conversion. The car looks relatively clean for drifting, but I'm not sure it's worth the $7,000 asking price. What do you think?
Welcome to theThe Daily Shot. This is where we post original pictures taken at track days, races, or just the daily drive around town.
Today's picture again comes from a local parking lot. This STi is so confident in its performance abilities that it won't shy away from sporting some hella tight green rims. Stylish? You be the judge.
If you like any of these shots feel free to drop us a lineTheDailyHoon@gmail.com. Happy hooning.
We love browsing YouTube for videos of random hoonage. Today we found a video of a Volvo wagon dubbed "The Battle Wagon" by YouTube user MasterCHimself. There are a few other videos on his channel, but we thought this nice drifting session would get you through the afternoon. Enjoy the opposite lock action :D
So it's Tuesday....and nobody likes Tuesday's. Hopefully everyone enjoyed their long weekend. If not...check this video out. Take a drag of this Skyline to get you through the day:
Welcome to theThe Daily Shot. This is where we post original pictures taken at track days, races, or just the daily drive around town. Today's picture comes from San Diego, CA. On a recent trip out west I spotted this Porsche GT3 RS parked gracefully in front of a local restaurant. Notice the superb parking job. What a glorious machine.
If you like any of these shots feel free to drop us a lineTheDailyHoon@gmail.com. Happy hooning.
Last night during Top Gear there was twitter contest that asked you tweet a story about your first car. The first ten entries would win a "Stag Alarm Clock", somehow we were one of the first ten! Here's what we won:
I personally think it will look great in The Daily Hoon offices.
A big Thanks goes to BBC America and Top Gear. If you'd like to check out the winning entires go to the Top Gear Tumblr at: http://topgear.tumblr.com/ .
Our winning entry can be found here. Search twitter for #myfirstcar to see some other entries.
Who To Follow: Our weekly rundown of the interesting accounts to subscribe to or put on a list on your twitter. In todays high speed world of social media it's important to have a solid stream of up to date and pertinent information that interests you. Bucking from the "Follow Friday" tradition we figure it's a good idea to find people to follow to begin the work week as opposed to the end. Hopefully you'll enjoy these as much as we do:
@BBC_TopGear - The official twitter account for the legendary British motoring show, providing a constantly stream of updates on new vehicles and information. @TopGear_America - The little cousin of the BBC Top Gear, think of it as Top Gear Lite. Still fun as hell.
@MWRT - Monster World Rally Team; Sponsors of the Gymkhana drift legend Ken Block; a Hoonigan.
@ZeroToSixty - Twitter for 0-60 Mag, a magazine about fast cars. Beautiful. @Motor_Trend - Motor Trend: Maxim for cars, because everyone needs good bathroom reading. If anything, I think of it as an honorable place to be, bathroom time is sacred and we're proud to bring Motor Trend there with us...and now you can too on your mobile device.
Yup that's right the Bahrain GP with the sweet layout and dusty turns has been cancelled due to political unrest... What's going on over there, really just take it easy, stop the nonsense and lets get back to racing shall we?
Either way it seems like were looking at Melbourne, Australia to host the season opener... I always was a fan of this, the Melbourne GP was a great host for the initial flag drop.
If you follow any F1 Teams on Twitter make sure you follow us as well, as you'll get the inside scoop from our awesome brains...

The Monday Meltdown is where we post a sweet video of a burnout. Either an atrociously bad burnout like last week, or a violently glorious burnout like today. Enjoy the "Skyline from Hell". :D
Ten turns of high speed racing, it should be a great time. Tune in to FOX at noon for all of the race day coverage. I'm expecting a great race.
UPDATE: Scotto informed me after posting this that the Daytona 500 will actually be taking place on only the Oval portion of the Track. Take from that what you will.
